Last year I launched my Teatopia Column. It started off as facebook posts, and a friend encouraged me to do more with the content so I branded my posts and put some imaging to it and Voila Moiy's Teatopia was born! Teatopia came from this idea of being the most authentically you one can be with no apologies. In essence every wisdom that I learn and want to share with my community. Over the last year I have curated this wisdom and shared with my community, but most importantly it has been rewarding to look back and see what wisdom God placed on my heart at different points last year. I look forward to sharing more Tea and sipping with you along the journey this year. There is so much in store and I look forward to sharing how you can live your best life, unapologetically and authentically as possible whilst welcoming the uttermost Joy into your life. Tea reminds me of a place of deep reflection, Tea comes in different flavors and across the world one can find the culture of tea brings people together at family tables, meeting tables and work tables as well. So how do we serve tea in these various environments whilst being exactly who we are? Stay tuned for how I walk my purpose in the most real way I possibly can! For those of you who have been sipping along the way, keep sipping for those of you new to Moiys Teatopia Una Welcome Oh.

How do you selfcare? I’ve been asked this question many times. How do I deal with emotional turmoil, stress, negative energies that others may try to project, a rough season etc. So i realized i needed to share my self care tid bits and journey when I have crappy days what are some of the things that help me get through! For my grandmothers sitting around the fire and telling stories whilst listening to their favorite female griots sing was just what they needed to heal and talk through their stresses, this notion of self care with community or in other facets is not too strange or far off for me. In fact I would argue that as much as people think self care is a western concept I could trace it's origins within my Sierra Leonean culture but in more subtle non explicit ways. So I decided to start a column that focuses on self care from my own perspective both culturally embedded as well as my educational background in social work and how it has impacted my perception on mental health. Peppersoup recipes will focus on my rituals for self-care through one of my favorite self care mediums being food! More specifically my love for Peppersoup. There is something so comforting about making a warm bowl of West African Peppersoup. Through each post I will share the ingridients in making various types of pepper soup along with my key selfceare message for that week. Looking forward to engaging with you on your own journey to selfceare and self preservation.
Let's make some Peppersoup & Chill. MB. My maternal grand aunt: My grandma Theresa as I would call her was one of a kind. She would take Okada (motorcycle used as transportation in parts of west africa) to get her hair fixed in her 80s, she would take shots of brandy to celebrate her birthday and never held on to grudges for so long. These were the gems I learnt from her during her time being alive. Grandma T lived and lived unapologetically, not letting anyone or anything cause her stress and this is why I believe she lived so long. My mother Anne Marie : My mother is one of a kind. My favorite thing I want to celebrate of this woman is how she builds her relationships. My mother is the most caring, forgiving and gracious woman I know. She is quick to forgive others and always finds a way to support and celebrate the people in her life by showing gratitude, spending time or sharing gifts. I celebrate her today. My mentor: My mentor Maame is a fire cracker. I guess perhaps because we are both capricorns, we get along even more. The thing that impresses me about Maame is her willingness to be vulnerable or as she would call it her whole woman concept, “showing up as you are fully in any space”. I love how she embodies motherhood, being a wife, an activist, big sister and mentor, worshipper with grace yet sharing her challenges and her realness as a human being. I celebrate her today. Along with the women mentioned today, there are so many other women I celebrate today who have shaped me in one way or the other! Is there a woman in your life who deserves to be celebrated? Why not reach out to the three women today and share why they inspire you? Happy IWD 2018! |
