My maternal grand aunt: My grandma Theresa as I would call her was one of a kind. She would take Okada (motorcycle used as transportation in parts of west africa) to get her hair fixed in her 80s, she would take shots of brandy to celebrate her birthday and never held on to grudges for so long. These were the gems I learnt from her during her time being alive. Grandma T lived and lived unapologetically, not letting anyone or anything cause her stress and this is why I believe she lived so long. My mother Anne Marie : My mother is one of a kind. My favorite thing I want to celebrate of this woman is how she builds her relationships. My mother is the most caring, forgiving and gracious woman I know. She is quick to forgive others and always finds a way to support and celebrate the people in her life by showing gratitude, spending time or sharing gifts. I celebrate her today. My mentor: My mentor Maame is a fire cracker. I guess perhaps because we are both capricorns, we get along even more. The thing that impresses me about Maame is her willingness to be vulnerable or as she would call it her whole woman concept, “showing up as you are fully in any space”. I love how she embodies motherhood, being a wife, an activist, big sister and mentor, worshipper with grace yet sharing her challenges and her realness as a human being. I celebrate her today. Along with the women mentioned today, there are so many other women I celebrate today who have shaped me in one way or the other! Is there a woman in your life who deserves to be celebrated? Why not reach out to the three women today and share why they inspire you? Happy IWD 2018!
